Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif Joins RWU as Vice Chancellor

Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif, upon assuming charge as Vice Chancellor Rawalpindi Women University, has initiated a process of forward-looking, dynamic, and result-oriented leadership. Her appointment was made by the Governor of Punjab, in his capacity as Chancellor, on the recommendation of the Higher Education Department’s search committee for a term of four years. The formal notification was issued on July 10, 2026.

Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif is regarded among Pakistan’s distinguished academic leaders, with more than 27 years of diverse experience in higher education. Her professional expertise spans teaching, research, quality assurance, curriculum development, faculty development, and academic policy-making. Her career reflects a consistent focus on institutional development, academic excellence, and sustainable reform.

She has previously served as Vice Chancellor of two universities in Sindh, where, under her leadership, the institutions achieved notable progress in academic standards, governance, and overall development.

Soon after taking charge at Rawalpindi Women University, she initiated immediate measures for institutional improvement and strategic planning. In this context, she convened a comprehensive meeting of all Heads of Academic Departments, where each department presented detailed briefings on performance, research activities, achievements, challenges, and future plans. The meeting enabled a careful review of the existing situation and helped identify practical and effective measures for improvement.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Tayyaba emphasized that quality education and a strong research culture are fundamental to any university’s identity. She directed faculty members to focus on quality research, acquisition of research grants, publications in international journals, and improvement of academic standards. She also identified curriculum upgradation, strengthening academia-industry linkages, and improving teaching systems as key priorities to align students with evolving global requirements.

She further stated that the university’s development would not be confined to short-term measures but would be built on sustainable foundations. In this regard, long-term, effective strategies in academic programs, research, infrastructure, and institutional policy-making would be given central importance to ensure efficient use of resources and alignment with global academic standards.

The Vice Chancellor announced that comprehensive planning is underway to introduce new academic programs aligned with market needs and emerging fields, and proposals will soon be presented before the Academic Council for approval. In addition, upgrading laboratories, digital facilities, and infrastructure will be ensured on a priority basis.

Expressing her vision, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Zarif stated that the true progress of any institution depends on vision, collective effort, innovation, and clarity of direction. She expressed confidence that, through the collaboration of faculty, officers, staff, and students, Rawalpindi Women University will further strengthen its academic and research activities and advance its mission of empowering women through quality higher education.
