Training workshop on Programme Review for Effectiveness and Enhancement (PREE)

On January 10th, 2024, Rawalpindi Women University’s Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) hosted a comprehensive training workshop on Programme Review for Effectiveness and Enhancement (PREE) and the preparation of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR). The session aimed to equip faculty with the necessary skills to enhance quality assurance practices and improve educational standards. Dr. Baqir Husnain, Director of QEC, opened the event with a brief introduction to RWU, setting the tone for a collaborative learning experience. The workshop featured distinguished guests, including Prof. Dr. Bushra Yasmin, Director of QEC at Fatima Jinnah Women University, Dr. Muhammad Iftikhar Ali, Director of QEC at Iqra University, Ms. Asmat Parveen, Director of QEC at IBADAT International University, Islamabad, Mr. Humayoun Awan, Deputy Director of QEC at Allama Iqbal Open University, Engr. Usama Rashed, Deputy Director of Quality Assurance at National University of Medical Sciences, Ms. Noor ul Haya, Manager of Academic Assessment at Foundation University Islamabad, and Mr. Muhammad Asif Imran, Manager of Quality Assurance at National University of Medical Sciences. The workshop brought together QEC coordinators, program and assessment teams from various departments, focusing on how to structure a comprehensive SAR report and evaluate it based on the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) criteria. Dr. Naveed Ahmed, Deputy Director of QEC at the National College of Arts, shared his expertise in quality assurance, providing valuable insights. The discussions were engaging and enriched participants’ understanding of the SAR process, marking a significant step towards strengthening internal quality assurance (IQA) processes at RWU. This initiative underscores RWU’s commitment to aligning with HEC standards and fostering continuous academic improvement.

Workshop on Curriculum Redesign for Sustainability

On November 5, 2024, the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at Rawalpindi Women University organized a one-day workshop on Curriculum Redesign for Sustainability, aimed at QEC members and curriculum coordinators. Ms. Ambreen Asif Qureshi, a Cambridge-accredited Master Trainer and the founder of IntellAct Consultant, was invited as the resource person. During the workshop, Ms. Qureshi highlighted the importance of aligning Outcome-Based Education (OBE) with measurable learning outcomes and integrating sustainability by linking Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants actively engaged in discussions on embedding SDGs across academic disciplines and explored ways to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills while ensuring that curricula remained relevant and outcome-driven. This approach aimed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to address global challenges, ultimately preparing graduates who can contribute to a sustainable future. Dr. Baqir Husnain, Director of QEC, commended the resource person and participants for their enthusiasm and active involvement throughout the session.

Orientation session on the Review of Institutional Performance and Enhancement (RIPE)

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Rawalpindi Women University (RWU) organized a two-day orientation session on the Review of Institutional Performance and Enhancement (RIPE) for Heads of Departments, Administrative Heads, and QEC Coordinators on October 17 and 22, 2024. Dr. Baqir Husnain, Director of QEC, inaugurated the session, providing a detailed overview of the RIPE process and the 16 key standards involved in institutional performance review. The session was highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and raising insightful questions. Dr. Husnain concluded by thanking everyone for their contributions, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration in enhancing RWU’s performance.

A training session on SARs preparation and quality assurance at Rawalpindi Women University

A training session on SARs preparation and quality assurance at Rawalpindi Women University was organized by the Quality Enhancement Cell. Led by Dr. Erum Zarief Monis, a Quality Assurance expert from the National University of Medical Sciences, and enriched by insights from Mr. Humayun Awan, Deputy Director of Quality Assurance at Allama Iqbal Open University, the session aimed to illuminate the path to excellence for Assessment and Program Teams.Focused on HEC-QAA parameters, the training reinforced RWU’s commitment to quality enhancement, ensuring that the university exceeds the highest education standards. Dr. Baqir Husnain, Director QEC/EL, emphasized the importance of quality assurance. The enthusiasm displayed by the teams reflects a collective dedication to educational excellence.

Training programme on Internal Quality Assurance mechanism i.e. Self-Assessment Reports

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Rawalpindi Women’s University organized a one-day training program on December 6, 2022, focused on Self-Assessment Reports. The session aimed to train Program Teams, Assessment Teams, and QEC Coordinators on the self-assessment process. Professor Dr. Riaz Ahmad, Head of Aerospace Engineering at NUST, Islamabad, was the resource person. He discussed the objectives of self-assessment, the roles of Program and Assessment Teams, and the design of programs and courses. Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal, Vice Chancellor of RWU, commended the resource person and participants for their active involvement. The workshop emphasized enhancing internal quality assurance within academic departments.

Outcome Based Education (OBE)

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) of Rawalpindi Women University organized a two-day workshop on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) on 18th-19th October 2022. Prof. Dr. Junaid Ali Khan, Dean of HITEC University, served as the resource person. The workshop focused on the significance of OBE for enhancing teaching and learning, with discussions on assessing CLOs, PLOs, and PEOs. Participants actively engaged in discussions, emphasizing OBE’s role in improving educational quality. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal appreciated the resource person and participants for their enthusiasm and involvement.

Online Training on Online Assessment Tools

On January 30, 2021, the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) conducted an online training session via Zoom for faculty teaching FA/FSc classes, focusing on online assessment tools. The session introduced tools for quizzes and formative assessments, with Ms. Zakia Khanum (Assistant Professor of Geography) and Ms. Fatima Seerat (Assistant Professor of English) providing comprehensive demonstrations on Quizzes.com and Kahoot. Twenty-five participants attended the two-and-a-half-hour session, with most creating their first subject quiz during the training. Each participant was tasked with designing at least three online quizzes for student assessments. The feedback was highly positive, and a follow-up online session is planned to award certificates and recognize the top three demos.

Faculty Development Training/Workshop Organized by QEC, RWU

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at Rawalpindi Women University organized a faculty development workshop titled “Elevating Education: Quality Assurance in Modern Teaching Philosophy and Advanced Thinking.” Led by Dr. Afshan Huma, Head of the Department of Educational Planning at Allama Iqbal Open University, the session focused on quality assurance, continuous improvement, and innovative teaching methods. Dr. Baqir Husnain, Director QEC/EL, emphasized the importance of these training sessions for faculty capacity building and aligned them with the Vice Chancellor’s vision. The session aimed to equip faculty with advanced thinking skills to integrate modern educational philosophies into their teaching. Faculty members engaged enthusiastically, demonstrating RWU’s commitment to academic excellence. Ultimately, the goal as to enhance the quality of education at RWU.
